What is the HIRE Act?

Recent legislation that gives employers tax incentives for hiring unemployed workers.

How do I qualify?

All you have to do is hire someone after February 3, 2010 and before January 1, 2011 who did not work more than 40 hours in the 60-day period preceding the date that you hired them. 

Have them complete Form W-11. 

Claim the payroll tax exemption on your Form 941 forms starting with the second quarter of 2010.

If you employ them for a full year, claim the income tax credit on your 2011 income tax return.
